( Pen, chocolate and two rupees)

"Every person that happens to visit India inevitably becomes a worshiper of an unthinkable for our time and space God - “The God of small things”. The God of those small things which we don't see at home and thus irresponsibly consider non-existent. However, they do exist and they are much more than small, for they are part of the chemical formula of the indian air. Part of what “comes with the first breath and goes with the last” as indians say.

You, dear reader, are about to open the magical “verbal reality show” of Elena and Nicky. Sorry if this combination of words annoys you because of the overexposed vulgarity of its last components these days. But I can't think of any better way of naming what is hidden between the pages of this book.
It shocks. It brings tears and smiles and doubts. It frustrates, inspires, incites, analyses and denies. It predicts, bodes and divines. It draws and blots. It flatters and offends. It praises and forbids. It surprises and tortures. It caricatures and stigmatizes and who knows what else.

It can't be differently as India is a dynamic and absolutely unpredictable “reality show”, which is so well captured and stamped with words by Eli and Nicky that you feel like dashing out the house and trying to reach the fastest way some of the destinations, making this unforgettable and picturesque embroidery of thousands of colourful threads..."

"The India, these young authors are going to tell you about, is just their India.
There they saw not the deceptive exоtic character of the well-paid gurus, not the world of Bollywood, but a living, dynamic world, in which buses are filthy and trains - cram-full. This is a real penetration in nowadays India. The authors say it well: “From place to place as if with a magic wand the ordinary Indians managed to untie the knot with which as foreigners we had tightened up our hearts.”

…Oh, yes, should I not forget: this is a book about real love. Have it in mind!..."

More about the book

What makes the book interesting and original is the fact that everything is told from two points of view, from the perspectives of two separate diaries that each of us had been keeping. These viewpoints do not contradict but complement each other. India's richness manifest not only through people, religion and culture but also through the unordinary situations, through the big range of thoughts and feelings it causes in everyone that gets in touch with it. This richness inspired us to keep diaries where we share even the slightest details of our impressions and moments of joy and sorrow. After coming back to Bulgaria a desire grew in us to share our memories with all those people who have been inspired in some way by India.

In addition to our stories we present also topics that differ from the well-known image of India. These are the topics to which we have affinity, which build up „our India“ – tribal people or adivasi, natural resources and environmental issues, place of ecology in religion, animal cults and animal issues, village folklore, Chipko Andolan, the art of kalaripayattu and kathakali, the kabaddi sport including the interesting lifestories of famous people, with whom bulgarian readers are not familiar – the tribe researcher Verrier Elwin, the ornitologist Salim Ali, the wonder worker from Ahmedabad, Reuben David, the hunter Jim Corbett and others.

As a whole we may say that the book is a product of the effort to describe some different from the well-known aspects and characteristics of the large and colourful world of India and also a product of both - the subjective world of the emotions and thoughts of two young students with a passion for exploring and learning from nature with the objective world of the facts and explanations that we as graduated indologists can offer.

We hope this book will be useful to all future travellers and people who have planted India in their hearts.

-->

-->

  2. When I went through the first pages of the book I was stunned - every little thing - thoughts, emotions, sensations I felt when I first stepped on Indian soil were there - in Elena and Nicky's book. Everything that went before my eyes - people, buses, trains, villages, everyday life was now passing as a movie in mind. This book is about an undescribable world of worlds - colourful, spiritual, material, visible and hidden. One that you want to admire and criticise at the same time - India is like true love - you cannot express it in words - as at times your eyes are full of tears but your mouth widens in a smile simultaneously. Elena and Nicky's book is like a movie going on in your mind while reading. It is an incredible experience. And the most valuable aspect of this book is its SINCERITY - nothing hidden - neither the bad nor the good. Everything is as it is. Be careful though - this book is abt India but you may find out at the end that it is mostly a book about people - you may find yourselves there - and it is questionable if some of you will like what you will find. :)
